Some recipes for Allium neapolitanum include use of animal parts (e.g sheep`s bile) applied as ear drops. Such preparations were an historical but long discredited way to treat these problems. It is dangerous & not recommended.
Allium genus has species containing compounds that can cause acantholysis (loss of cohesion between keratinocytes in skin epidermis e.g. in pemphigus vulgaris). Large amounts (> 5 cloves/day) can cause flatulence, flatus, hearburn & potentiate effects of many drugs including anticoagulants, hypertensive medications, NSAIDs, valium etc. Contraindicated in hyperthroidism. May cause allergies & irritate gastrointestinal tract causing nausea, vomiting & diarrhea.
