Salvia genus has species which can be toxic due to thujone & camphor in essential oil if used in excess or taken for extended periods. Can interfere with drugs for epilepsy, hypoglcaemia & sedatives. Symptoms include restlessness, vomiting, vertigo, tremors, seizures, hot flushes, dizziness, tachycardia. Contraindicated in pregnancy, epilepsy.
