1.Lolium temulentum can be toxic due to its common (>80%) infection by an endophytic fungus (Neotyphodium genus ) which produces toxic alkaloids that cause drunken nausea & can be fatal if taken orally. The botanical / latin name, temulentus, "drunk," describes this condition.
2. Z notes in recipes used to treat poisoning that it causes diarrhea.
